Pinterest Building a Following

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Access Pinterest

  1. Open Pinterest and log in.

  2. Navigate to the "Business" section:

    • Click the far-left tab and select "Business" → "Home Feed".

    • Alternatively, use the search magnifying glass and type in a product, activity, or one of your collections.

Step 2: Find a Relevant Pin

  • Look for a Pin related to the products you sell in your store.

  • Prioritize Pins that have emoji reactions (e.g., hearts, smiley faces) if they show (lately they're not showing very many of them).

  • Focus on Pins posted by:

    • Individuals, or

    • Smaller companies (not massive, well-known brands).

Step 3: Engage with the Pin

  1. Like the Pin:

    • Click on the heart icon (if available on the post).

  2. Comment on the Pin or Another Comment:

    • Click the Comments tab.

    • Scroll down until you see your name.

    • Leave a positive, specific comment about the product (avoid generic comments).
Tip: Add humor if appropriate to stand out.

Step 4: Explore the Account

  1. Visit the account that posted the Pin (or most likely a commenter’s profile).

  2. Look for accounts with fewer than 2,000 followers to follow.

  3. Ideally look for more recent comments.

Step 5: Follow the Account or Board

  1. Click the Follow button for the account, OR:

  2. Scroll to their Saved Boards and follow:

    • Boards that align with your business interests or niche.

Following smaller accounts and interacting with them helps draw attention to your profile, encouraging them to engage with you.

Step 6: Optional - Save a Pin

  1. Save one of their Pins to one of your own relevant Boards.

    • If you don’t have a fitting Board, create one.

  2. Why?

    • A mixture of your products and third-party content makes your Boards more engaging.

    • This also shows you’ve saved their Pin, encouraging interaction.

Step 7: Watch for Results

By engaging in the steps above:

  • People will receive notifications of your interactions.

  • They’re likely to check out your profile, follow your Boards, and interact with your content.

Additional Tip

  • Keep your activity varied and genuine. Avoid repetitive comments to maintain authenticity.
